Let me ask you something. Why do you quit when it gets hard? Why do you quit? You make this commitment, you're like "yeah, I said I'm gonna do whatever it takes" and you even gain momentum sometimes. Sometimes you're starting to gain momentum and you quit. I don't get why you would do that I guess I do. I guess I do.
You know growing up, I always said I want to be a professional baseball player. Let me set this one like when I was four years old I'd be like, "I want to be a professional baseball player". You know what, when you're young, everybody wants to be a professional baseball player. All the guys and all the boys are like, "me too. I'm gonna be a professional baseball player. I want to be the best." Until, it came time to skip the parties on Friday nights and hit until your hands bleed. All of a sudden there's no takers. All of a sudden you're there hitting there alone. Because what you want and what's required are not linked up in your head. You're not taking into consideration, that what you want, everybody wants. Do you get that? Everybody wants, what you want. Everybody wants a better lifestyle. Everybody wants a better body. Everybody wants a, you know, a better life. Everybody wants that.
And so, because of that it's freaking hard! it's competitive, and what I would consider, (I'd actually) consider is this. When you make a commitment, understand that a commitment is different than wanting something. It's different than thinking "oh that would be cool. it'd be cool to have that, if it was just handed to me." it's supposed to be hard. If it were easy, everybody would be rich. If they were easy, everybody would be successful. If it were easy, everybody be lean and ripped. it's not supposed to be easy. You don't want it to be easy because then if it's easy, it's not success.
What you want, is consider this, you're saying "I want to go there." The reason you want that is that it rises up above the population rises above the average. And then when you hit the adversity that the average hitting quit, you're quitting. So I don't know what it is for you. I don't know if you're on a run. Like, I was on this run today. I run this (run this) I take this and when I get to the top, my lungs start burning. My legs start burning. It gets hard. You know my mind says? "Stop! This hurts." That is the exact skill you need to learn. I would actually recommend that. I would recommend that you go on long runs and run until you can't run anymore and then keep going as a metaphor for your life. You just keep running and keep running and keep running until you learn the skill of when your mind tells you to stop, you keep going. You can negotiate but you do not give in. You can say, "You know what, I'll walk. I'll walk but I'm not going to stop moving forward. I'm not gonna stop going up the hill." because that is lame my friend. For you to make a commitment, and then go, and then stop is worse than never going at all.
In the first place, you know there's a lot of people out there in the personal development industry now that hold people to a higher standard. And we tend to do that. We tend to hold people to a higher standard than we hold ourselves. I don't think so. That's not what a leader is. That's not what a champion is. A champion holds themself to a higher standard than anybody else could possibly hold what they do? They call other people up to that standard. And if you don't come up to that standard, you're out! 'Coz you don't play at that level.
What level you playing at? What commitments have you given up on? Think back of all the (all the) things you said you're going to do. And then when it got tough you stop. And then think about all the things, all the commitment you made, and then you push through, and you got there. Was it worth it? Hell yeah! It was worth it! You're on a new level. You can't create change without going through the resistance. The resistance, "the suck" if you will, everybody, often whose US Marine, calls it, the suck is what makes you great.
Going through the struggle, it's what makes you. It's not a "way". It's not like "I might go through struggle." Struggle is the way! So when you make a commitment, understand you're going through that struggle. And all the great ones have gone through it just like you. You're no different.
